Calavera Mexican Skull Limited Edition Prints Numbered by Artist

An admirer of South American culture, and in particular of Mexican culture, Amaury Dubois offers us his own breath of life through the imagery of the Calaveras.

Celebrating this passage not as an end, but as a beginning, such is the story of the Feast of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) which takes root in Mexico. These rites dedicated to the ancestors in South American civilizations date back to 3000 years before our era. It is an occasion for people to go out into the streets, to celebrate and to dress up in colourful and flowery costumes to honour them.

In the manner of the Calaveras’ imagery, the artist shows us a festive and colourful dimension of this moment and a sacredness of this passage so much decried in our Western culture. The use of bright colours, turquoise backgrounds and floral forms that contradict the central presence of the Mexican skull from which nature and life are reborn; a new beginning, a rebirth for a rich and intense future existence.
