With this original work on paper, Amaury Dubois explores a more subdued approach. In contrast to his dense, saturated compositions, he opts here for restraint. He stylizes the female silhouette, distilling it down to its lines and curves, retaining only the essentials.

The inspiration draws from the radicalism of Henri Matisse’s Blue Nudes: a simplified, obvious, almost timeless figure. It is not about describing, but suggesting. Letting the void breathe to better make the form vibrate.

The surface is built in light layers: acrylic, ink, and spray paint interact with subtlety. Then charcoal steps in, decisively, to trace the pure line of the silhouette. A controlled gesture, stopped at just the right moment. To do too much would have broken the balance.

Amaury Dubois  Born in 1980 and originally from Lille in the North of France. The artist draws his inspiration from the world around us. With his so particular style, which he has named “Courbisme” and his exacerbated vision of reality, Amaury Dubois creates colourful contemporary artworks, rich in life and emotion. World-renowned, he has also carried out numerous large-scale projects, such as the largest contemporary fresco ever created in a church in France at Châtelaillon-Plage, the creation of custom-made frescoes for the Pierre-Mauroy Stadium in Lille and the use of one of his paintings for a McDonald’s advertising campaign.
